November 26, 2011

So, I really am not sure why I am doing this other than for Anna Caston and Shepherd.  I hope that one day they appreciate me trying to document and capture moments that would otherwise get lost in crazy life....(Anna Caston, I am sorry that you are very soon to be 2 and your momma is just getting started ;)  I've been wrapped up in you and all your glory for the past 2 years!)
What a fun week it has been!  Thanksgiving is my favorite holiday!  It truly is a time to reflect on all of God's precious blessings!  Jeff and I are blessed beyond measure.  Thank you, God, for giving us 2 perfect children...for this unconditional love and abundant joy!  Thank you for our wonderful, supportive family and friends.  Thank you for our health and safety.  Your grace is ever amazing!
Mom and I took Anna Caston and Shepherd to the Audubon Zoo in New Orleans on Monday.  We have taken them before, but Anna Caston had a ball this time!  I think her favorite was the monkeys.  She was intrigued in seeing how each animal family had a momma, daddy, and baby.  We had lots of fun with that.  We saw the zookeepers feed the gorillas--boy, can they eat.  They peeled their oranges in a matter of seconds--so neat!  We also enjoyed seeing the elephants and giraffes.  Anna Caston got to pet the goats and sheep in the petting zoo.  She got a bit frustrated that some of them wouldn't wake up.  Her favorite thing was the playground at the end of the day.  She went down the big slide all by herself at least 100 times.  Shep had a great day too.  He loves being outside and was definitely a trooper as he always is!  Scary to think that next year he will be just as into the zoo as his sister is!

Shepherd had his 6 month appointment this week.  I cannot believe my sweet baby boy is 6 months old!  Time just flies!  He did great and is perfectly healthy!  He showed Dr. Parvin his tricks--scooting on his tummy, doing his wave (which is really a reach he just moves his fingers when he reaches).  He also did his giggle that is contagious to anyone around him.:) He is a growing boy at 16.4 lbs and 25 inches!  Bless his heart--he screamed like a girl when the nurse got him 4 times!  My heart just broke for him....
Thanksgiving started on Wednesday evening.  We had the Big Keene Thanksgiving at Dottie's house and got to see all the cousins.  Anna Caston had fun playing with McKenzie and Madison while I played bingo and Jeff did was he does best--TALKED!  Landyn came home with us to stay the night.  Anna Caston thought it was funny that she slept with her in her bed!  Thursday came with much tradition--the HOBBLE GOBBLE 5 Mile Race!  I always look forward to that run.  The day was beautiful!  Great run!  I ended up finishing 2nd in my age group and leaving with a $75 Walmart gift card!  Woohoo!  We went home to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade before going to Mimi's for lunch.  Yes, on our way out of the house, I asked Jeff to get the potato casserole out of the oven and he spilled it everywhere---poor Jeff!  Lunch at Mimi's was delicious.  Anna Caston and Shepherd had lots of fun playing outside--riding the Kubota, swinging on the tire horse, picking flowers.  Anna Caston found some old flat rocks my mom had from the Smoky Mtns and she had a ball taking them out of the bucket--and I buy toys why?  Friday we put up Anna Caston and Shepherd's Christmas tree.  I had taken them to Target to pick out their "own" ornament for the year.  I think this will be a fun annual tradition and pretty neat to reflect on when they are older.  Of course Anna Caston chose not one Dora, but 2 Doras and we chose a cute yellow glass rubber ducky for Shep.  We used big red balls and made red bows.  I had 2 old ornaments that had pictures of Jeff and me.  Anna Caston loved that--"mommy, daddy".  She had more fun with the kooks (hooks) than the actual decorating of the tree.  Shep liked the lights and just being a part of the fun!  Sweet Shepherd!
Tonight we had a playdate with Maggie at her house and played dress up in Maggie's Dora dress up clothes...necklaces, bracelets, tiaras, and all!  Kimberly and Brian are probably still picking up toys!:)
FUN TIMES!
